Tell everyone about your move!

To prepare for our exit and entrance into a new community, I ordered free business cards from Vista print with our family’s new information. The kids will give these out at school so that they can keep in touch with friends. While I was there, I couldn’t resist getting a free address stamper (who needs writing cramp!) and reasonable business cards for my small business.

Start Packing

Get your moving boxes & supplies! Movingout.com is the largest direct merchant of moving boxes and moving supplies offering the lowest prices, fastest service and free nationwide shipping in the US.

Find a Bank

I love WaMu for its great checking program - friendly, quirky bankers and free everything, and I mean everything. I’ve checked out a lot of competing programs down to the fine print. If you are in the market to change backs and there’s a WaMu nearby, it’s worth it to check them out.

Insurance

You’ll need to update your home, car and other insurance policies when you move. Find out if you can save some money by using NetQuote.

Find qualified repair people

Angie’s List has reviews of service providers for all kinds of household jobs. You’ll love to get the inside scoop from someone who has had the same type of work done on their home.

Find childcare

SitterCity will match you with qualified temporary child care, nannies or even pet sitters. You’ll love it if you had to leave your favorite sitter back at your old place.

Arrange Your Travel

Priceline is great for travel on a budget. During my last move, I got the pleasure of staying in hotels for 8 weeks while my family finished school and closed up the house. Believe me, you want to stay in a nice place, but you hate to waste the money. Priceline lets you set your price and quality level for flights, hotels, cars and even vacations (I hope you get a nice one this year!) and the vendors that need to sell their capacity will accept your offer. We’ve gotten great hotel deals in Boston and New York for a steal.

Get Your Groceries Delivered!

So you are in your new house, unpacking like a fiend, when a little voice says, “I need a snack!” Yikes! You don’t have any groceries in the house! Well, you might like to quickly zip online and order a bunch of stuff to arrive the first day you are in your new house to prevent just this situation. Here are a few great services that I’ve used. I love them! You save so much time and energy that can definitely be used elsewhere during your move.

And while you are waiting for your groceries, how about take out?

Credit Repair and Reporting

Find out what’s lurking on your credit report before your mortgage company or landlord do! Equifax is a leading provider of credit scoring reports for consumers.

MyFICO.com also provides you with comprehensive reporting from all three top credit reporting bureaus, giving you a detailed view of your credit situation. They also offer counseling and education services to repair any issues.

With identity theft on the rise, you’ll get peace of mind by looking into LifeLock. Their services are designed to protect your good name from the threat and hassle of ID theft.

If you’ve got a legal matter to take care of, whether its starting a new business, writing a will, applying for a trademark or pursuing a small claim, chances are LegalZoom can help you get it done far less expensively than by using a lawyer. They have streamlined processes to get these tasks done for you online. I’ve used them for three situations and have always been happy with the results.
